December 2006 Trips Fifth Water Winter Hike and Swim December Trip will be on Saturday, December 9th at 10:00 AM. The first trip we have planned is a family winter hike and swim. We will be going to Fifth Water Hot Springs located in Spanish Fork Canyon. We plan on starting the hike from the trail head at 10:00 AM. (We will be leaving from 14328 S Kasey Circle Draper at around 9:00 AM if you want to follow us down.) This is about a 4 mile round trip hike to a beautiful natural hot springs with cool waterfalls spilling into family size pools of hot water. The temperature of the pools are around 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The hike up takes about 1 hour to cover the 2 miles to the springs and another hour back. We plan on staying at the pools for a few hours to swim, eat lunch, and play before we begin our hike back down. *We will be going rain, snow, or shine. Snow actually makes this experience more fun! Driving Directions: Driving Directions from I-15 and US 6 in Spanish Fork. Drive 10.7 miles southeast on US 6 to the Diamond Fork turnoff (Forest Road 29). Turn left and drive 10 miles on the paved and narrow road to the Three Fork sign. Turn right here, to where ample parking is provided. Note: The last 10 miles is not maintained in the winter months and a four wheel or all wheel drive will most likely be required unless we have little or no snow fall. The trail will most likely be snow covered and slick. Carpooling from the main highway will be available for those who do not have 4 X 4 or All wheel drive capacity. Please call 801-381-3352 for carpooling assistance. If you have a 4 X 4 vehicle and would like to help in shuttling part of the group to the trail head, please email me with your contact info shawnbkenney@yahoo.com Things you will need to bring: Warm hiking boots, winter clothing, gloves, etc. Water and food. Wear your swimming suit underneath Towel Dry undergarments for after the swim Backpack to carry all your gear Camera Field Journal and art supplies Hiker Age and Ability vs Hike Conditions: Please only bring children that can navigate the four + mile trip on their own. There are a few spots on the trail with steep drop offs to the river below. The trail is not paved and is not conducive to the use of a stroller. Baby carrier backbacks are necessary if you are bringing someone who will not be walking on their own. At the hot springs the water source is very very hot and can cause burns. Please make sure to keep your kids away from the water source to prevent accidents. The rock at the hot springs is also wet, slick and sharp. All ages are welcome on the hike at the parent's discrection and assessment of child's ability.

Fifth Water Hike and Swim Diamond Fork Canyon Thanks to all those who came on our trip. The weather was great, the scenery magnificent, and the company of friends incredible! Hiking conditions were perfect and the hot tub conditions at the top of the hike really topped it off! It was definitely a beautiful Saturday we'll never forget.
The bridge was out so we had to construct a new bridge to cross the river for our hike.
The old bridge that was torn out.
Once we got across the log and rock bridge we made, we headed up the trail.
On the way up the trail.
We made it the the hot springs!
Taking a nice hot dip after the long hike in.
The water was a bit on the hot side when we got there so a few did what they could to cool off.

There were at least thirty kids on the hike!
We relaxed and had lunch in the hot springs.
